Routing — Overview

The Routing section defines rules for incoming and outgoing calls, number rewriting, operating mode switches and script channels.

Routing components

Inbound routing

Processes all incoming calls from SIP trunks assigned to inbound routing. It can also control calls from PBX branches if numbers are marked as “global”. The PBX searches inbound routing rules for dialed numbers on outgoing calls.

Outbound routing

Defines rules for all outgoing calls — typically to voice service providers, between VoIP PBXes or through VoIP gateways.

Outbound rewrite

Defines number rewrite rules. These rules are then assigned to outbound routing rules.

Switch

Allows convenient switching between operating modes (e.g. day/night mode).

SCRIPT channel

For users with Asterisk scripting knowledge — allows creating custom dialplan contexts with custom rules.
